The Schoondex

Privacy policy

Last updated 16 October 2026

The Schoondex (schoondex.com.au) is Australia's schooner price index. This page explains what we collect when you use the site, why, who helps us run it, what other people can see, and how to get your data or your account deleted. If anything is unclear, email privacy@schoondex.com.au.

What we collect

Your account

  • Your email address.
  • Your password, if you sign up with email. It's handled by our sign-in provider (Supabase) and stored in scrambled (hashed) form. We never see it.
  • If you choose “Continue with Google”, Google tells us your email address and the basic profile details it shares at sign-in (such as your name and profile picture).
  • The username you choose, and a profile photo if you add one.

What you add to the site

  • Prices you submit: the pub, the beer, the price, the serve size, any happy hour times, and the date and time.
  • Photos and captions you add to a submission, including Beer-Real posts (a photo of your drink and a photo of you).
  • Other drinks you log, new pubs you add, and the cheers and comments you leave on posts.
  • The points, badges and rankings you earn from these.

Your location

We only ask for your location when you use a feature that needs it: Cheapest schooner near me, verifying a price, or adding a new pub. We never ask when a page loads. Your browser asks your permission first, and we only use your location for the features below.

  • Cheapest schooner near me: your position is used in your browser to find nearby pubs. It isn't sent to us or stored. If you type a place instead, that text is sent to Mapbox to find it on the map.
  • The “you are here” marker: if you've already allowed location for the site, the map shows where you are. This stays in your browser. Your position is only followed live while near-me or a price submission is open.
  • Verifying a price: your position is sent to us once to check you're within 200 metres of the pub. It's used for that check and not saved.
  • Adding a new pub (“Can't find your pub?”): we assume you're at the pub you're adding, so your current position is saved as the pub's location on the map. That location is public, and we record that you added the pub. If location is off, the pub is placed roughly, by state, instead.

You can turn location off in your browser or phone settings at any time. Near-me still works by typing a suburb or postcode.

Technical information

Like most websites, our hosting and database providers keep standard logs (such as IP address, browser type and the time of a request) to keep the service secure and running.

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits: which pages are viewed, the referring site, and your country, browser, device type and operating system. It doesn't use cookies or identify you, and it can't follow you across other websites. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

Cookies and storage on your device

  • Sign-in cookies, so you stay logged in.
  • A visit count and whether you've closed the “Add to Home Screen” message, so we don't keep showing it. These stay on your device.

What's public and what's private

Public, visible to anyone

  • Your username, profile photo, points, badges and ranking, including on the leaderboard.
  • Your profile page, which lists your approved submissions: the pub, price, beer, date and time, photos and captions. Taken together, this shows which pubs you've been to and when.
  • Beer-Real posts, including the photo of you, and other drinks you log with a photo (these appear straight away), plus the cheers and comments you leave.
  • Your username next to pubs where you're the most recent price contributor.
  • The map location of any pub you add.

Photos are stored with public web links, so anyone who has a photo's link can view it. If a submission is rejected or removed, its photos are deleted.

Private

  • Your email address and password.
  • Your location, apart from the location of a pub you add.
  • Price submissions that haven't been approved.

How we use your information

  • To run the site: your account, the map, prices, photos and posts.
  • To award points and badges and keep the leaderboard.
  • To keep prices honest: the 200 metre check, one submission per pub per day, and reviewing prices that look unusual.

We don't sell your information or use it for advertising.

Who helps us run the site

  • Supabase: accounts and sign-in, our database, and photo storage.
  • Vercel: hosts the website and provides our visit counts (Web Analytics).
  • Mapbox: map images and place search. Your device loads map images directly from Mapbox, so Mapbox sees your IP address and the areas of the map you view, plus any place you type into near-me.
  • Google: only if you choose to sign in with Google. Directions links open Google Maps, which is covered by Google's own privacy policy.

These providers may store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and contributions while your account exists. Providers' technical logs are kept for their own limited periods. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account details, profile, photos, comments and cheers. We may keep the prices you submitted without anything that identifies you, so the price index stays accurate.

Your choices

  • See your data: email us and we'll send you a copy of what we hold about you.
  • Correct it: change your profile photo on your profile page, or email us to change your username or anything else.
  • Delete your account or a post: email privacy@schoondex.com.au from the address you signed up with, and say what you'd like deleted.

We aim to reply within 30 days.

Age

The Schoondex is about buying alcohol and is meant for people of legal drinking age (18 or over in Australia).

Changes

If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
